What this trial studies

The randomized controlled trial enrolled 152 mothers of healthy preschool children (ages 3–6) registered at Family Health Center No. 1 in Artvin and randomized 76 to the digital parenting education and 76 to a control group. The intervention consisted of eight 20-minute sessions plus a brochure, with content drawn from national parental guides from the Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Health, and the Presidency's Directorate of Communications. Outcomes (mothers' social media addiction levels and knowledge/attitudes about children's technology use) were measured before and after the intervention in a 2x2 mixed design. The program was delivered at the Family Health Center and targeted mothers who use digital devices and maintain social media accounts.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are mothers with at least a primary school education who have a healthy 3–6-year-old child, use a digital device, and have at least one social media account.

Not a fit: Mothers or children who develop acute or chronic illnesses during the data collection period, mothers without digital device/social media use, or those unwilling to continue participation are unlikely to benefit from the program.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the program could help mothers reduce problematic social media use and strengthen parenting practices that support healthier technology habits in preschool children.

How similar studies have performed: Similar parent-training and digital-literacy programs have shown modest success in improving parental mediation and reducing children's screen time, though results are mixed and short-module interventions have limited direct evidence.
