What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the effectiveness of a brief digital mindset intervention aimed at enhancing performance among recreational runners training for a half marathon in New Zealand. The intervention focuses on reframing physical symptoms like fatigue and soreness as positive indicators of progress, thereby potentially improving motivation and training outcomes. Participants will be divided into groups receiving either the mindset training, standard training advice, or no content, allowing researchers to assess the impact of mindset on race completion and performance. The digital modules will be delivered over nine weeks leading up to the event, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy adults aged 18 or older who are registered to run their first, second, or third half marathon in New Zealand in 2025.
Not a fit: Patients who have completed more than two half marathons or are currently injured may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could help runners improve their performance and training outcomes by fostering a more positive mindset towards physical exertion.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of digital mindset training is novel, similar psychological interventions in sports have shown promising results in enhancing performance.
