What this trial studies
This randomized-controlled trial investigates the impact of digital follow-up on exercise adherence and aerobic capacity in individuals with severe mental disorders. Participants will engage in high-intensity interval training sessions at a clinic and then continue exercising independently with support from a digital platform called HelsaMi. The study aims to assess both short-term and long-term effects on physical fitness, quality of life, and cardiovascular risk factors over a 12-week intervention period and a follow-up after one year. The intervention includes communication with healthcare personnel and educational resources to enhance participant engagement and adherence.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18-65 receiving outpatient mental health treatment who are capable of participating in exercise training.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications for exercise, severe medical conditions, or those currently hospitalized in acute psychiatric wards may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve exercise adherence and overall health outcomes for patients with mental disorders.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with digital health interventions in exercise adherence, suggesting potential success for this approach.
