What this trial studies

This study focuses on creating a reliable and valid visual assessment scale, known as the Avoidance of Sports Activities Photo Scale, specifically for overhead athletes suffering from shoulder pain. It aims to evaluate the functional status of the shoulder joint by identifying which sports activities are most affected by pain. The research will be conducted at Hacettepe University, following COSMIN guidelines, and will involve at least 100 participants who will complete surveys to assess the scale's psychometric properties. The goal is to fill a gap in the literature regarding shoulder pain assessment in athletes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are male and female athletes aged 18-35 who have been engaged in overhead sports for at least 3 years and are currently experiencing shoulder pain.

Not a fit: Patients with neurological or rheumatological diseases, active infections, a history of cancer, or severe visual impairments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this scale could provide a more accurate and functional assessment of shoulder pain, leading to better management and treatment strategies for athletes.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be existing assessments for shoulder pain, this specific visual scale approach is novel and has not been widely tested in similar contexts.
