What this trial studies
This study aims to create a sensory-based narrative intervention to enhance vocabulary development in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Participants will be divided into an experimental group receiving the new intervention and a control group receiving standard narrative therapy for six weeks. The study focuses on bilingual children in Pakistan, specifically those who speak Urdu as their first language, addressing a gap in culturally sensitive therapeutic tools. Vocabulary improvements will be measured through pre- and post-testing in both groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 6-11 years with mild to moderate ASD who speak Urdu as their first language and have English as a second language.
Not a fit: Patients with co-morbid conditions or severe behavioral difficulties may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve vocabulary development in children with autism, particularly in bilingual contexts.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored internationally, this study is novel in its focus on Urdu-speaking children and the incorporation of sensory elements.
