What this trial studies

This observational pilot study aims to identify the optimal number of pleural biopsies to take during pleuroscopy for patients with pleural diseases. Participants will undergo pleural biopsies, with specimens divided into three groups for pathological evaluation. A pathologist will assess the biopsies to determine how many are necessary for accurate diagnosis and sufficient material for biomarker testing. The study seeks to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning for pleural conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who require pleuroscopies.

Not a fit: Patients unable to provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes for patients with pleural diseases.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored pleural biopsy techniques, this specific approach to determining the optimal number of biopsies is novel.
