Detecting viruses in feces of individuals with non-gastrointestinal infections
Investigation of the Detection Rate of Pathogenic Viruses in the Feces of Individuals With Non-gastrointestinal Infections
This study is trying to see if there are any viruses in the poop of healthy people and those with certain infections to better understand their connection to non-gastrointestinal illnesses.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze fecal samples from 200 healthy individuals and 200 patients with parenteral virus infections to construct an enterovirus database. Researchers will collect demographic data, medical history, and lifestyle information from participants while performing virus metagenomic sequencing on the fecal specimens. The goal is to identify viruses present in the intestines of healthy individuals and explore their potential link to parenteral infections. The study will utilize publicly available metagenomic data to enhance understanding of viral presence in non-gastrointestinal infections.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 75 who are healthy and not on long-term medication.
Not a fit: Patients with significant underlying health conditions, such as cardiovascular or digestive diseases, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the understanding of viral infections and their detection in non-gastrointestinal contexts, potentially leading to better diagnostic methods.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored viral detection in fecal samples, this specific approach of linking enteroviruses to non-gastrointestinal infections is relatively novel.
