What this trial studies

This non-randomized controlled study will compare dementia caregivers who use the DemensiaKITA mobile app to caregivers who continue with usual support in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Participants will be allocated to an intervention group that uses the app for a defined period or to a control group with usual care, with measurements taken before and after the intervention. Outcomes include changes in knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) measured by tools such as DKAT-2 and caregiver attitude/practice scales, and caregiver burden measured by the Zarit Burden Interview. The app delivers culturally tailored education modules, attitude-shaping messages, practical care tips, and self-monitoring tools for caregiver well-being.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older who are the primary informal (family or household) caregiver of a person living with dementia, can read Malay, own a smartphone, and consent to participate are the ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Professional/paid caregivers, caregivers of patients without dementia, and individuals with severe cognitive or psychiatric illness that limits participation are unlikely to benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the app could improve caregivers' dementia knowledge and caregiving skills and reduce their stress and overall burden.

How similar studies have performed: Similar mobile and digital caregiver education programs have produced modest improvements in caregiver knowledge and burden in other settings, but results have been mixed and locally tailored interventions remain less studied.
