Deep phenotyping of adult asthma patients
The All Age Asthma Cohort (ALLIANCE) of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), Adult Arm
LungenClinic Grosshansdorf · NCT02419274

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on the deep phenotyping of adult asthma patients, examining various factors such as severity, atopic status, and age of onset. It aims to understand the clinical heterogeneity of asthma by linking observable characteristics (phenotypes) with underlying biological mechanisms (endotypes). The study collaborates with a pediatric cohort to explore questions related to disease onset, exacerbation, and chronicity in a comprehensive manner. Data collection includes clinical assessments and biomaterial processing to facilitate further analyses.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with asthma according to the GINA guidelines, who can read and understand German.
Not a fit: Patients with a recent history of respiratory tract infections may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more targeted therapies for asthma patients based on their specific phenotypes and endotypes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in characterizing asthma phenotypes, but this approach of linking them with endotypes in a comprehensive cohort is relatively novel.
