What this trial studies

This is a prospective observational project enrolling French-speaking adults who attend their first chronic pain consultation at Hôpital Paris Saint Joseph during 2025. Participants will complete patient-reported outcome measures and questionnaires about their preferences, knowledge, and involvement in treatment choices to identify factors that influence decisional autonomy. The study will also collect self-reported treatment responses during routine care to relate decision processes to perceived effectiveness. The work uses a biopsychosocial framework to integrate biological, psychological, and social contributors to pain and decision-making.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Francophone adults (age ≥18) attending their first chronic pain consultation at Hôpital Paris Saint Joseph between January 1 and December 31, 2025, who can give non-opposition to use of their data.

Not a fit: People with major visual or hearing impairments, those under guardianship or deprived of liberty, those who refuse data use, non‑French speakers, or patients treated outside the hospital are unlikely to benefit from this local, questionnaire-based project.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians better support patients' involvement in decisions and tailor care to improve daily functioning and satisfaction with pain management.

How similar studies have performed: Similar observational and patient-reported outcome studies and biopsychosocial approaches have shown benefits for patient engagement and management, though focused analyses of decisional autonomy in chronic pain are relatively limited.
