Curcumin and astaxanthin to lower triglycerides and reduce low-level inflammation
Curcumin and Astaxanthin for Lowering Triglyceride Readings and Inflammation
NA · Medinutra LLC · NCT07063056

What this trial studies
Adults aged 21–59 with fasting triglyceride readings of 140–250 mg/dL will be assigned to take one capsule daily of Longvida curcumin (full or half dose), astaxanthin, or a placebo for six weeks. Fasting serum triglycerides and several blood markers related to low-level inflammation will be measured at baseline and after six weeks. Each supplement is compared against placebo to determine whether it helps maintain triglyceride readings within the normal range with minimal side effects.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults 21–59 years old with fasting triglycerides between 140 and 250 mg/dL who meet the study's health criteria (no uncontrolled diabetes, active liver disease, certain inflammatory or hormonal disorders, heavy alcohol use, smoking, extreme obesity, pregnancy, or breastfeeding) are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People with uncontrolled diabetes, active liver disease, autoimmune inflammatory diseases, current smokers, those drinking more than five alcoholic drinks per week, individuals with BMI over 37, or pregnant or breastfeeding people are unlikely to benefit or may be excluded.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, these supplements could provide a low-cost, low-side-effect option to help people with moderately high triglycerides maintain healthier lipid levels and reduce low-level inflammation.
How similar studies have performed: Small clinical and preclinical studies have reported modest lipid-lowering and anti-inflammatory effects for curcumin and astaxanthin, but larger, well-controlled trials are limited.
