What this trial studies
This study evaluates the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a culturally adapted intervention called T1DES aimed at improving diabetes management among Black young adults aged 18-30 years with type 1 diabetes. The intervention focuses on addressing diabetes distress, a significant factor contributing to racial disparities in glycemic control. Participants will be randomized to receive either the T1DES intervention or standard diabetes education, with outcomes measured in terms of HbA1c levels, diabetes distress, and self-management strategies over a six-month period. The study aims to provide insights into culturally relevant approaches to enhance diabetes care for this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Black young adults aged 18-30 years with a confirmed diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and elevated HbA1c levels.
Not a fit: Patients with developmental delays, severe physical disabilities, or diabetes complications that hinder participation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved glycemic control and better overall health outcomes for Black young adults with type 1 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with culturally tailored interventions in diabetes management, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this approach.
