What this trial studies
Researchers will work with Latino/a patients and caregivers to adapt an existing MTC educational website into a culturally relevant Spanish-language decision aid using interviews and iterative feedback. The project includes phases of co-development, prototype testing with participants to measure understanding, and refinement based on user input. After production, acceptability will be measured among a broader group of Latino/a participants and caregivers using the Ottawa Acceptability Scale. The team will also collect basic clinical and demographic information from users and plan wider dissemination of the finalized tool.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (age ≥18) who identify as Hispanic or Latino/a, speak, read, and write Spanish, and who have medullary thyroid cancer or are nominated caregivers of someone with MTC are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People who are non-Hispanic/non-Latino, under 18, unable to read/write/speak Spanish, or with significant cognitive/psychological impairment are not expected to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the tool could improve understanding, confidence, and decision-making for Spanish-speaking Latino/a patients with medullary thyroid cancer and their caregivers.
How similar studies have performed: Web-based decision aids and culturally adapted educational materials have improved understanding in other cancer populations, but a Latino/a-specific adaptation for medullary thyroid cancer is a novel application.
