What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a culturally adapted psychological intervention, known as E-CMAP, for older adults experiencing suicidal ideation. The intervention will be refined through expert discussions and tested in a multicenter randomized controlled trial. Participants will be assessed for changes in suicidal thoughts, hopelessness, depression, quality of life, and other related factors three months after randomization. The study seeks to address the significant public health issue of suicide among the elderly, particularly in low and middle-income countries.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 50 and above who have a recent history of suicidal ideation and can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with severe mental or physical illnesses that prevent them from providing consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce suicidal ideation and improve mental health outcomes for older adults.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in culturally adapted interventions for mental health, suggesting potential success for this approach.
