Creating organoids from vestibular schwannoma tissue

Vestibular Schwannoma Stem Cell Organoids

Observational Maastricht Radiation Oncology · NCT05786144

What this trial studies

This project involves collecting tissue from patients undergoing surgery for suspected vestibular schwannoma, a type of tumor affecting the auditory nerve. The remaining tissue, after sufficient samples are taken for diagnosis, will be used to create tumor stem cell organoids, which have not been previously described for this condition. The study aims to evaluate the correlation between the effects observed in these organoids and the actual patient outcomes, potentially providing valuable insights into the biology of vestibular schwannoma. Blood samples will also be collected to compare normal DNA with tumor DNA, without requiring additional interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have an MRI indicating suspicion of vestibular schwannoma and are scheduled for surgery.

Not a fit: Patients who refuse to participate or are younger than 18 years will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved understanding and treatment options for patients with vestibular schwannoma.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of organoids in tumor research is established, the specific application to vestibular schwannoma is novel and has not been previously tested.
