Creating lung organoids from human lung stem cells in COPD patients
Establishment of Human Lung Stem Cell Proliferation System and Organoid Construction in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
China-Japan Friendship Hospital · NCT06275230

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to proliferate human lung stem cells in vitro to establish lung organoids derived from patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Participants will undergo pulmonary bronchoscopy to collect samples necessary for organoid construction. The study seeks to determine the feasibility of human lung stem cell proliferation and the successful establishment of lung organoids from COPD patients. This approach could provide insights into the disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic avenues.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients under 55 years old with a diagnosis of COPD who are scheduled for a bronchoscopic biopsy.
Not a fit: Patients with genetic diseases, other respiratory diseases, or those deemed unsuitable by investigators may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to advancements in understanding and treating COPD through the development of patient-specific lung organoids.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using lung organoids is emerging, similar studies have shown promise in other organ systems, indicating potential for success in this novel application.
