What this trial studies

This study aims to establish a Nephrology Tissue Biobank to facilitate research on chronic kidney disease (CKD) through the lenses of epidemiology, genetics, and molecular biology. By collecting kidney tissue samples from individuals undergoing biopsies, the study will enable researchers to investigate molecular markers and pathways associated with kidney disease and its progression. The ultimate goal is to enhance understanding of kidney health issues and develop new prevention and treatment strategies that can be shared with the medical community and the public.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include men, women, and children undergoing kidney and/or pancreas biopsy at the University of Michigan.

Not a fit: Patients who are not willing to provide consent for prospective biopsy will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this biobank could lead to improved prevention and treatment strategies for chronic kidney disease.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing tissue biobanks for chronic diseases have shown promise in advancing understanding and treatment, indicating a potential for success in this approach.
