Creating a shared database of COVID-19 imaging for AI development
Crowdsourcing an Open COVID-19 Chest Radiograph Imaging Repository for Artificial Intelligence Research
This study is creating a safe online place for COVID-19 patients to share their chest X-rays to help improve AI tools that can quickly and accurately detect the virus.

What this trial studies
This project aims to build a crowdsourced repository of de-identified radiographic images from COVID-19 patients to facilitate the training and validation of AI diagnostic models. By launching a secure web portal, CovidImaging.com, patients can share their chest radiographs, which will be used to enhance the accuracy and speed of COVID-19 detection through advanced deep learning techniques. The initiative addresses the current lack of accessible imaging datasets in the U.S., which is crucial for developing effective AI tools in the fight against the pandemic.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this project are individuals who have been tested for COVID-19 and possess a chest radiograph image.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a chest radiograph image used for COVID-19 testing will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this project could lead to earlier and more accurate detection of COVID-19, improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using AI for medical imaging, but this approach of crowdsourcing a specific COVID-19 imaging repository is relatively novel.
