Creating a model for the direct anterior approach in hip replacement surgery
Modeling and Workflow Recognition for the Anterior Approach in Total Hip Arthroplasty
This study is trying to break down the steps of a specific hip replacement surgery technique to see if it can make the surgery easier and help patients recover better.

What this trial studies
This study aims to systematically describe the surgical process for the direct anterior approach (DAA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA) by segmenting a labeled dataset of THA surgery videos into individual surgical steps and sub-steps. The project utilizes surgical process models (SPMs) to manage and optimize the surgical workflow, allowing for comparisons between different interventions and surgical teams. By analyzing the complexities of the DAA, the study seeks to enhance surgical efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients scheduled for primary total hip arthroplasty at the participating hospitals.
Not a fit: Patients who have had previous hip surgery or those with hip or pelvis fractures at the site of the THA may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical techniques and outcomes for patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using surgical process models is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in optimizing surgical workflows and improving outcomes.
