Creating a Danish Drowning Registry to Track Fatal and Nonfatal Drowning Cases
Developing an Utstein-style Danish Drowning Registry: Nationwide Fatal and Nonfatal Drowning Data Since 2016

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to establish a comprehensive registry for drowning incidents in Denmark by linking prehospital data with in-hospital records. It focuses on analyzing mortality and neurological outcomes 30 days post-drowning since 2016. The study seeks to identify risk factors and develop recommendations for educational and preventative strategies to reduce drowning incidents. By utilizing a nationwide approach, it aims to provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of current rescue and treatment protocols.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who have experienced a drowning incident and are registered in the Danish Prehospital Drowning Data.
Not a fit: Patients who are declared dead on the scene or have irreversible death signs will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this registry could lead to improved prevention strategies and treatment protocols, ultimately reducing drowning fatalities and enhancing patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While similar registry-based approaches have been utilized in other countries, this specific Utstein-style Danish Drowning Registry is a novel initiative.
