COVID-19 antibody and PCR testing program
Serological and PCR Testing for SARS-CoV-2. A Prospective Study Assessing Infection, Immunity, and Asymptomatic Carriage of COVID-19
This project uses PCR and blood antibody tests to find current or past COVID-19 infection in people aged 5 to 70, including those with and without symptoms.

What this trial studies
The program combines membrane-based immunoassays, quantitative IgG/IgM antibody measurements, and PCR testing on blood and respiratory samples to identify active infection and past exposure. Participants are screened longitudinally so antibody levels and PCR status can be tracked over time to estimate duration of immune response and asymptomatic carriage. Tests are applied to workers and their families, including children, with in-house PCR methods verified by an independent laboratory. Data will be used to support early detection of new infection waves and to help develop a quantitative laboratory reference for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are people aged 5 to 70 who can attend the London site and are willing to provide blood and swab samples and comply with follow-up visits.
Not a fit: People outside the 5–70 age range or those seeking experimental treatments rather than diagnostic information are unlikely to receive direct clinical benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the testing could help identify who is currently infectious or has developed antibodies, aiding infection-control decisions and monitoring vaccine responses.
How similar studies have performed: PCR and serology approaches are widely used and have reliably detected active infections and prior exposure, although quantitative antibody reference methods are still being refined.
