What this trial studies

This study focuses on developing best practices for contraceptive counseling specifically tailored for transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth assigned female at birth who are using or interested in using depot medroxyprogesterone (DMPA). Through qualitative methods such as focus groups and semi-structured interviews, the research aims to gather insights from TGD youth about their experiences and satisfaction with DMPA. The goal is to address the unique health disparities faced by TGD youth and improve equitable access to reproductive health services. The findings will help healthcare providers create more inclusive counseling practices that consider the intersection of gender identity and reproductive health.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are transgender or gender diverse adolescents aged 15-21 who were assigned female at birth and are currently using or interested in using DMPA.

Not a fit: Patients who have contraindications to DMPA or do not identify as transgender or gender diverse may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved contraceptive counseling and reproductive health services for transgender and gender diverse youth.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited literature on this specific approach, the study aims to fill a gap in existing research regarding equitable contraceptive counseling for TGD youth, indicating a novel focus.
