What this trial studies
This is a randomized, placebo-controlled interventional trial that gives healthy postmenopausal women either the Cortexium dietary supplement or a matching placebo and measures cognitive function. The supplement contains PQQ, GABA, caffeine, and B‑vitamins, ingredients thought to support mitochondrial function, neurotransmission, and brain health. Participants must be at least one year past their last menstrual period or have confirmed postmenopausal status by FSH level or bilateral oophorectomy, and those with recent cancer, psychiatric or neurocognitive disorders, or substance addiction are excluded. Cognitive tests and questionnaires are used to compare changes between the supplement and placebo groups over the treatment period at the clinic in Debrecen.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Healthy postmenopausal women at least one year since their last period or with FSH >30 mIU/ml or prior bilateral oophorectomy, without dementia, recent cancer, psychiatric illness, or substance addiction.
Not a fit: Women with active psychiatric or neurological disorders, recent cancer within five years, history of dementia, or drug and alcohol addiction are excluded and unlikely to receive benefit from this trial.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, Cortexium could modestly improve attention and memory in postmenopausal women and help reduce daily concentration lapses.
How similar studies have performed: Some small trials of individual ingredients like PQQ, caffeine, or B‑vitamins have reported cognitive effects, but combined formulations tested specifically in postmenopausal women are limited and not well established.
