Correcting inward twisting of the femur in children

Derotational Femoral Osteotomy With Either Percutaneous Osteotomy and Intramedullary Nailing or Open Approach and Plating - a Randomized Controlled Trail

Not applicable Interventional Oslo University Hospital · NCT04086368

What this trial studies

This project investigates the safety and accuracy of a less invasive surgical technique, percutaneous osteotomy and nailing, compared to the traditional open osteotomy and plate fixation for correcting idiopathic increased femoral anteversion in children. The study focuses on children aged 10-18 years who experience hip or knee pain due to excessive femoral anteversion. By evaluating radiographic findings and surgical outcomes, the trial aims to provide evidence for the most effective treatment approach. The goal is to improve patient outcomes and reduce recovery times associated with femoral derotational osteotomy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 10-18 years with a femoral anteversion angle of 30° or greater and experiencing hip or knee pain.

Not a fit: Patients with previous femoral injuries or chronic illnesses affecting extremity function may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a safer and less invasive surgical option for children suffering from excessive femoral anteversion.

How similar studies have performed: While traditional methods have been well-established, the use of percutaneous techniques is relatively novel and has shown promise in recent studies.
