What this trial studies
This study tests a coping skills program designed for Latino children aged 8 to 14 with asthma and their families, comparing its effects to a standard asthma management program. The intervention, called Adapt 2 Asthma (A2A), aims to improve asthma control, quality of life, and reduce emergency department visits by teaching families coping strategies for asthma-related stress. The study will enroll 280 families and assess outcomes through surveys, interviews, and spirometry at multiple time points. The researchers will also explore how the program impacts child and parent coping and family asthma management behaviors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Latino children aged 8 to 14 with a diagnosis of asthma who are patients at participating clinics.
Not a fit: Patients with disabilities that interfere with participation in the intervention may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve asthma management and quality of life for Latino children living in low-income contexts.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using coping skills interventions for chronic conditions, suggesting potential success for this approach.
