What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Non-Immersive Virtual Reality (VR) training compared to the Otago Exercise Program in improving balance and gait parameters among elderly individuals. Participants aged 55 and older will engage in either VR training or the Otago program, which focuses on lower limb strengthening and balance exercises. The study will assess improvements in spatiotemporal gait parameters, balance, lower limb strength, and fear of falling. The interactive nature of VR may enhance motivation and engagement in physical activity for older adults.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly individuals aged 55 and above who can ambulate independently without walking aids.

Not a fit: Patients who are wheelchair-bound, have neurological disorders, severe cognitive impairment, recent orthopedic trauma, or severe degenerative conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved balance and reduced fall risk for elderly patients, enhancing their quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results using VR for balance training in older adults, indicating potential success for this approach.
