Comparing two surgical techniques for treating pterygium
Comparative Analysis of Recurrence Rate Between Mini-Slet (Simple Limbal Epithelial Transplantation) Versus Limbal-Conjunctival Autograft Techniques in Primary Pterygium Excision
This study is testing two different surgical methods for treating pterygium to see which one works better and has fewer chances of the growth coming back.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of two surgical techniques for treating primary pterygium, an abnormal growth on the eye's surface. It specifically compares the Mini-SLET technique with the Limbal-Conjunctival Autograft method, focusing on recurrence rates after surgery. The study incorporates the use of a single amniotic membrane with stem cells to potentially improve surgical outcomes. Patients will be monitored for follow-up to assess the long-term results of the interventions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with primary nasal pterygium greater than 2mm who can commit to follow-up appointments.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, collagenopathy, or those who have had previous ocular surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical outcomes and reduced recurrence rates for patients undergoing pterygium surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying success rates with different surgical techniques for pterygium, but the specific combination of amniotic membrane with stem cells is relatively novel.
