What this trial studies

This study compares the effectiveness of lateral internal sphincterotomy combined with hemorrhoidectomy versus hemorrhoidectomy alone in managing patients with hemorrhoids. The aim is to evaluate whether the addition of lateral internal sphincterotomy can reduce postoperative pain associated with hemorrhoidectomy. The study will include patients aged 18 and older who are indicated for surgical intervention for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree hemorrhoids. Exclusion criteria include patients with 1st degree hemorrhoids, those with fissures, and individuals over 70 years old or unfit for surgery.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 70 with 2nd, 3rd, or 4th degree hemorrhoids indicated for surgical treatment.

Not a fit: Patients with 1st degree hemorrhoids or those with anal fissures may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce postoperative pain for patients undergoing hemorrhoidectomy.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have explored similar surgical techniques, but the specific combination of procedures in this study may provide novel insights.
