Comparing two surgical techniques for knee replacement

Comparison of Functional Outcomes in Restricted Kinematic Alignment and Mechanical Alignment in Robotic Assisted Simultaneous Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty. A Randomized Controlled Trial

Not applicable Interventional Thammasat University Hospital · NCT06323577

What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the efficacy of restricted kinematic alignment (rKA) versus mechanical alignment (MA) in patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) due to osteoarthritis. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one technique on one knee and the other technique on the opposite knee. The study aims to determine if rKA leads to better functional outcomes and lower pain scores compared to MA in this patient population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 40-80 with bilateral primary osteoarthritis of the knee who are scheduled for simultaneous bilateral TKA.

Not a fit: Patients with a BMI over 40, a history of previous knee surgery, or active knee joint infections may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved recovery and pain management for patients undergoing knee replacement surgery.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored similar alignment techniques in knee surgery, showing promising results, but this specific comparison is less common.
