What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare two surgical techniques for obesity treatment: sleeve gastrectomy with jejunoileal bypass (SGJIB) and single anastomosis sleeve jejunal bypass (SAS-JB). A total of 200 patients will be randomly assigned to either group, with Group 1 receiving SGJIB and Group 2 undergoing SAS-JB. The study will evaluate the effectiveness and safety of these procedures in managing morbid obesity. Both techniques involve specific surgical anastomosis configurations to optimize weight loss outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are obese patients with a BMI over 40 or over 35 with co-morbidities who are fit for laparoscopic surgery.

Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit include those unfit for surgery, those with previous upper abdominal surgeries, and individuals outside the age range of 18 to 60.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide patients with more effective surgical options for significant weight loss and improved health outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel, similar bariatric surgical techniques have shown promise in other studies, indicating potential for success.
