Comparing two surgical methods for treating medial meniscus tears
Arthroscopic Repair Versus Opening Wedge High Tibial Osteotomy for Medial Meniscus Posterior Root Tears
This study is testing whether a knee surgery that repairs the meniscus works better than another surgery that changes the knee's alignment for people with specific knee injuries.

What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of arthroscopic repair versus high tibial osteotomy in patients with medial meniscus posterior root tears. Eligible participants will undergo a one-week screening process to confirm their suitability for the study. Those who qualify will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups in a single-blinded manner, ensuring that patients are unaware of which intervention they receive. The study seeks to determine which surgical approach yields better outcomes for this specific knee injury.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals over 40 years old with a neutral to 10 degrees of varus alignment in their knees.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of high-energy trauma or multiligamentous knee injuries may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide clearer guidance on the most effective surgical treatment for medial meniscus posterior root tears, potentially improving recovery and function for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on surgical interventions for meniscus tears, this specific comparison of arthroscopic repair versus high tibial osteotomy is relatively novel.
