What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of two surgical techniques, arthroscopic discopexy and open discopexy, for treating anterior disc displacement without reduction in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Patients aged 20 to 50 with this condition will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups. The study involves thorough patient assessments, including history taking, clinical examinations, and imaging studies like CT and MRI to confirm the diagnosis. The procedures will be performed under general anesthesia by the same surgical team, with follow-up assessments scheduled at regular intervals.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 20 to 50 experiencing anterior disc displacement without reduction in the TMJ.
Not a fit: Patients with secondary TMJ disorders, structural deformities, or those who have previously undergone TMJ surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide patients with a more effective surgical option for alleviating TMJ dysfunction and improving quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying success rates for both arthroscopic and open surgical techniques in treating TMJ disorders, but this specific comparative approach is less commonly tested.
