What this trial studies
This study aims to compare two surgical techniques for patients with proximal gastric adenocarcinoma: proximal gastrectomy with anterior anastomosis and pyloroplasty versus esophagogastric anastomosis. The research will evaluate postoperative quality of life, short-term outcomes, and long-term outcomes associated with each surgical approach. By analyzing these factors, the study seeks to determine which method may provide better results for patients undergoing surgery for gastric cancer.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with histologically confirmed adenocarcinoma of the stomach at T1-T4 stages and a performance status of 0 or 1.
Not a fit: Patients with distant metastasis, significant esophageal invasion, or those who have received prior chemotherapy or radiation therapy for other malignancies may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical outcomes and quality of life for patients with gastric cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific comparison may be novel, similar surgical approaches have shown varying degrees of success in treating gastric cancer in other studies.
