What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of two regional anesthesia techniques, the pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block and the caudal block (CB), for managing postoperative pain in children undergoing hip surgery. Both techniques are used alongside general anesthesia to minimize opioid use and reduce side effects such as nausea and motor weakness. The study aims to determine which method provides better pain relief and fewer complications in pediatric patients aged 1 to 7 years. The research utilizes ultrasound guidance to enhance the precision of the nerve blocks.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1 to 7 years scheduled for elective hip surgery with ASA physical status I-II.

Not a fit: Patients with known local anesthetic drug sensitivity, bleeding disorders, or major cardiac, renal, or hepatic disorders may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved pain management strategies for children undergoing hip surgery, reducing reliance on opioids.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research on the PENG block in very young patients, similar regional anesthesia techniques have shown promise in managing postoperative pain in pediatric populations.
