What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to compare the effectiveness of deep marginal acquisition using a thermacut bur versus functional crown lengthening for exposing deep subgingival interproximal cervical lesions in patients with deep caries. The study addresses the challenges posed by deep subgingival margins during restorative work, which can complicate proper isolation and composite placement. By evaluating these two techniques, the trial seeks to identify a less invasive and more predictable method for exposing these difficult-to-reach areas without the need for surgical intervention. The outcomes will be assessed based on the ease of exposure and potential complications associated with each method.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with at least one deep subgingival interproximal carious lesion and good oral hygiene.

Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases, severe medical conditions, or cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a less invasive alternative for treating deep carious lesions, reducing the need for surgical interventions.

How similar studies have performed: While the technique has shown promise in clinical practice, it has not been formally tested or validated in previous studies.
