Comparing two irrigation methods before repairing tooth perforations

Effect of Two Irrigation Protocols Applied Prior to Furcation Repair on Post Operative Pain and Healing (A Randomized Clinical Trial)

Not applicable Interventional Minia University · NCT06757660

What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of two different irrigation protocols applied prior to the repair of furcation defects in mandibular molars. The study focuses on the use of chitosan, a biopolymer known for its antibacterial properties, in conjunction with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) to enhance healing outcomes. Patients with old furcation perforations will be treated, and their pain levels and healing progress will be monitored to determine the efficacy of the irrigation methods. The trial aims to provide insights into improving endodontic treatment success rates.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients with old furcation perforations in mandibular molars measuring 1 to 2 mm.

Not a fit: Patients requiring post-retained restorations, immunocompromised individuals, pregnant women, smokers, and those with recent antibiotic or analgesic use may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved healing and reduced pain for patients undergoing endodontic treatment for furcation defects.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results using similar approaches with chitosan and MTA in dental treatments, indicating potential for success.
