What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of modified hyrax and Quad helix appliances in treating posterior cross-bite in children with mixed dentition. It aims to determine which appliance results in better outcomes related to chewing difficulties, as well as assessing changes in inter-maxillary width, sleep apnea, and symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorders over a one-year period. Children will be monitored at regular intervals to gather comprehensive data on their treatment progress.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children with posterior cross-bite in the mixed dentition stage and normal to mild growth patterns.
Not a fit: Patients with advanced periodontal diseases, general diseases, syndromes, previous orthodontic treatment, or severe horizontal growth patterns may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve treatment options for children with posterior cross-bite, enhancing their chewing ability and overall oral health.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have been conducted, this specific comparison of modified hyrax and Quad helix appliances is relatively novel.
