What this trial studies

This clinical trial compares the effectiveness of two anesthesia techniques, the mental nerve block and the inferior alveolar nerve block, in providing pain relief for patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis affecting mandibular anterior teeth and premolars. A total of 96 participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two anesthesia methods using 2% lidocaine with adrenaline. The study aims to determine which technique offers better pain management during dental procedures. Inclusion criteria focus on patients experiencing sharp pain and bleeding during access opening, while those with contraindications or multiple tooth pain are excluded.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with mandibular premolars or lower anterior teeth experiencing sharp, persistent pain due to symptomatic irreversible pulpitis.

Not a fit: Patients with medical contraindications to local anesthetics, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or those experiencing pain in more than one tooth may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance pain management strategies for dental procedures, improving patient comfort and outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying success with similar anesthesia techniques, but this specific comparison is novel.
