What this trial studies

This study compares the learning curves associated with the I-gel and Protector laryngeal mask airway devices. Anesthesiology residents will perform placements of these devices in adult patients to evaluate their effectiveness and ease of use. The study focuses on understanding how quickly and efficiently residents can learn to use each device during procedures. By analyzing the performance of both devices, the study aims to identify which one may be more beneficial for training purposes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients aged 18 and older who are classified as ASA I-II and undergoing procedures in supine and lithotomy positions.

Not a fit: Patients with tumors or anatomical anomalies of the upper airway, a history of difficult intubation, or those requiring mechanical ventilation post-surgery may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance training for anesthesiology residents, leading to improved airway management in clinical settings.

How similar studies have performed: While this specific comparison may be novel, similar studies evaluating learning curves of airway devices have shown varying degrees of success.
