Comparing Troponin Tests for Diagnosing Heart Attacks
A Prospective Comparison of Cardiac Troponin T and Troponin I in the Diagnosis of Myocardial Infarction
This study is testing whether a different type of Troponin test can help doctors better diagnose heart attacks in patients with chest pain and reduce the need for unnecessary procedures.

What this trial studies
This study aims to compare the effectiveness of cardiac Troponin T and Troponin I in diagnosing myocardial infarction, particularly in patients presenting with chest pain. By evaluating whether Troponin I leads to fewer unnecessary invasive procedures, such as coronary angiography, the study seeks to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce healthcare costs. Patients suspected of having non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and referred for invasive procedures will be included in the analysis. The study is observational and will gather data from two hospitals in Copenhagen.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients admitted to Herlev-Gentofte or Amager-Hvidovre Hospital with clinically suspected NSTEMI who are referred for invasive coronary angiography.
Not a fit: Patients who do not present with chest pain or are not suspected of having NSTEMI may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate diagnoses of myocardial infarction and reduce unnecessary invasive procedures for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have suggested that Troponin I may be more specific than Troponin T, indicating potential success in this comparative approach.
