What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of teledentistry compared to direct oral examinations for elderly residents in aged care homes. Participants will receive oral health education followed by direct examinations by licensed dentists, while intraoral photographs will be taken by dental students. These photographs will later be assessed by blinded dentists to determine the oral health status using WHO criteria. Residents needing treatment will be referred to a dental hospital for further care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are elderly individuals residing in aged care homes in Egypt who can communicate and consent to participate.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to communicate effectively or give consent may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance oral health screening and treatment access for elderly individuals in aged care facilities.
