What this trial studies

This clinical trial investigates the effects of two different exercise interventions on improving static and dynamic balance in children aged 5 to 8 years with ataxic cerebral palsy. Participants will be randomly assigned to either Swiss ball exercises combined with stretching or Frenkel exercises along with stretching over a four-week period. The Pediatric Balance Scale will be used to measure outcomes before and after the intervention. The study employs a single-blinded design to ensure unbiased assessment of results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 5 to 8 years diagnosed with ataxic cerebral palsy and classified at GMFC level 2.

Not a fit: Patients with visual impairments, hearing loss, mental retardation, fixed contractures, or spinal deformities may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance balance and coordination in children with ataxic cerebral palsy, potentially reducing their risk of falls and improving their overall functional abilities.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on ataxic cerebral palsy, similar exercise interventions have shown promise in improving balance in other forms of cerebral palsy.
