What this trial studies

This observational study aims to compare the Karydakis flap method and Bascom's pit-pick procedure for treating pilonidal sinus disease specifically in women. Female patients aged 18 and older with three or fewer pits will be included and followed for 12 months post-surgery. The study will evaluate recurrence rates, complications, postoperative recovery time, and patient satisfaction. Both surgical methods will be performed under different anesthesia types, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of their effectiveness and aesthetic outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are women aged 18 and older diagnosed with pilonidal sinus disease and having three or fewer pits.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, those with recurrent disease, or those presenting with acute abscesses will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the most effective surgical method for treating pilonidal sinus in women, potentially reducing recurrence and improving patient satisfaction.

How similar studies have performed: While there are limited studies focusing specifically on women, similar surgical methods have shown varying degrees of success in treating pilonidal sinus disease.
