What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of two types of shock wave therapies—radial and focal shock waves—in treating lateral epicondylalgia, a condition characterized by elbow pain and decreased muscle strength. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: one receiving radial shock wave therapy, another receiving focal shock wave therapy, and a control group receiving a placebo treatment. The effectiveness of the treatments will be assessed using pain scales, grip strength measurements, and disability questionnaires over a six-month follow-up period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals experiencing lateral epicondylalgia for more than three months with specific pain responses during grip tests.
Not a fit: Patients with systemic diseases, recent treatments, or local infections may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a non-invasive treatment option for patients suffering from chronic elbow pain.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with shock wave therapies for similar musculoskeletal conditions, indicating potential for success in this approach.
