What this trial studies

This prospective cohort study aims to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the Revised Trauma Score (RTS) and the MGAP score in assessing clinical outcomes among multiple trauma patients admitted to a trauma center in Iraq. Participants will be scored using both systems upon admission, and their clinical outcomes, including mortality and other relevant indicators, will be monitored throughout their hospital stay. The study seeks to determine which scoring system provides better predictions and if certain subgroups of trauma patients benefit more from one score over the other.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include trauma patients who present to the center within 6 hours of injury and have complete clinical data available for scoring.

Not a fit: Patients who have expired before scoring or those with missing or unreliable medical data will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the accuracy of trauma outcome predictions, leading to improved patient management and care.

How similar studies have performed: While the use of scoring systems in trauma assessment is established, this specific comparison of RTS and MGAP in a developing country context is relatively novel.

Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria:

* Presentation to the trauma center within 6 hours of injury.
* Availability of complete clinical and demographic data for scoring using RTS and MGAP.
* Patients who consent to participate in the study or whose legal representatives provide consent.
* Capability to assess outcomes such as survival, ICU admission, and complications.

Exclusion Criteria:

* Patients who expired before scoring or evaluation
* Missing or unreliable medical data for RTS or MGAP score calculations.
* Transfers from other facilities with interventions that could impact RTS or MGAP reliability.
* Pregnant patients, due to the unique considerations of trauma in pregnancy.
