Comparing recovery quality after shoulder surgery using different anesthesia methods

Comparison of Postoperative Quality of Recovery by Anesthetic Method in Patients Undergoing Shoulder Arthroscopy: Brachial Plexus Block for Pain Control Under General Anesthesia Versus Brachial Plexus Block for Surgical Block Under Sedation

Not applicable Interventional Seoul National University Hospital · NCT06638112

What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the quality of recovery in patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy by comparing two anesthesia techniques: general anesthesia combined with a preoperative brachial plexus block and regional anesthesia with intraoperative sedation. Patients aged 19 and older who are scheduled for this type of surgery will be included, while those with certain exclusions such as severe lung disease or contraindications to the nerve block will not be eligible. The study will assess recovery outcomes to determine which anesthesia method provides better postoperative results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients aged 19 and older scheduled for elective shoulder arthroscopic surgery.

Not a fit: Patients requiring emergency surgery or those with severe lung disease may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved recovery experiences for patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown varying results regarding anesthesia methods in similar surgical contexts, indicating that this approach is relevant but not entirely novel.
