Comparing physical health in children with esophageal atresia and healthy peers
Comparison of Symptoms, Pulmonary Function, Muscle Strength, Exercise Capacity, and Frailty Level in Individuals With Esophageal Atresia and Healthy Individuals
This study looks at how the physical health of children with esophageal atresia compares to that of healthy kids to see how the condition affects things like strength, exercise, and overall well-being.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate and compare various physical characteristics, including pulmonary function, muscle strength, exercise capacity, and quality of life, between children diagnosed with esophageal atresia and their healthy peers. By assessing factors such as body composition, peak cough flow, and fatigue levels, the study seeks to understand the impact of esophageal atresia on overall physical health and well-being. Participants will include children aged 6-18 from both groups, with specific inclusion and exclusion criteria to ensure accurate results.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 6-18 with a diagnosis of esophageal atresia who can cooperate with the assessments.
Not a fit: Patients with orthopedic, neurological, or cardiovascular issues that may affect assessments, or those with recent respiratory infections, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the physical challenges faced by children with esophageal atresia, leading to improved management and support strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on related conditions, this specific comparison of esophageal atresia with healthy peers is relatively novel.
