Comparing penile skin graft and buccal mucosal graft for urethral stricture treatment
Anatomical and Functional Outcome of Penile Skin Graft Versus Buccal Mucosal Graft for Urethral Substitution in Long Segment Anterior Urethral Strictures
NA · Al-Azhar University · NCT06056856

What this trial studies
This study compares the effectiveness of penile skin graft (PSG) and buccal mucosal graft (BMG) for treating long anterior urethral strictures using a one-sided dorsal perineal approach. The research addresses limitations of previous studies, which were mostly retrospective and had varying follow-up durations. By conducting a well-designed prospective, randomized study, the investigators aim to determine which technique yields better anatomical and functional outcomes. The study will include patients with strictures longer than 2 cm while excluding those with certain complications or conditions that may affect the results.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are male patients with long segment anterior urethral strictures greater than 2 cm.
Not a fit: Patients with urethro-cutaneous fistula, urethral abscess, diverticulum, or those with lichen sclerosis will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide clearer guidance on the optimal surgical technique for urethral stricture repair, potentially improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While previous studies have explored similar techniques, this study's prospective randomized design is novel and aims to fill gaps in existing research.
