What this trial studies

This study evaluates the recovery outcomes of patients undergoing partial knee replacement versus total knee replacement for bicompartmental gonarthrosis. It involves a randomized approach with 48 adult patients divided into two groups: one receiving partial knee replacement and the other total knee replacement with patellar resurfacing. The primary outcome is measured using the KSS questionnaire at one month post-surgery, alongside other functional assessments at multiple follow-up points. The goal is to determine which surgical approach yields better functional recovery and patient satisfaction.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 40 to 85 with grade 3-4 medial gonarthrosis and intact ligaments.

Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, psychiatric disorders, or those outside the age range of 40 to 85 may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical options and recovery outcomes for patients with bicompartmental knee disease.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown promising results with partial knee replacements, suggesting potential benefits over total knee replacements, but this specific comparison is less commonly explored.
