What this trial studies

This study aims to compare pain intensity and discomfort levels between patients with Parkinson's disease and healthy controls during the induction of mechanical, thermal, and chemical experimental pain. Participants will include healthy volunteers, patients with Parkinson's disease receiving levodopa treatment, and those with deep brain stimulation treatment. The study will involve a randomized design where each participant undergoes a test session lasting approximately 1.5 hours at the Department of Neurophysiology, Aarhus University Hospital. The research will utilize a power calculation to ensure adequate sample size for statistical analysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include healthy individuals and patients with Parkinson's disease who are either on levodopa treatment or have undergone deep brain stimulation.

Not a fit: Patients with other neurological disorders, untreated depression, or those unable to cooperate may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of pain mechanisms in Parkinson's disease, potentially leading to improved pain management strategies for patients.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in the context of Parkinson's disease, similar studies have shown success in understanding pain responses in other conditions.
